The Long Way Down - Animatic

As well producing in my third year, I've also been taking on roles within the projects as well as others.

Carl - the director of The Long Way Down - created the first draft of the animatic & asked me if I would add some sounds effects...  I'd found many a sound clip previously to use for the animatic & now it was time to put them to use! Which would also help when pitching for sound designers! (Something we require & are rather interested in for all you sound designers who may be reading this!)

So my first attempt at sound on the Long Way Down animatic - one thing I definitely need to do is think out of the box when trying to find the sound effects! Things that create the sounds required may not initially be the things you'd think!

Underworld - Character Poses & Expressions.

Basic character colours for turnarounds & expressions! Intending to add some more defined shadows & possibly textures, however as I want the characters to stand out from the backgrounds regarding the animation I think I'll involve less texture with characters. But pro markers, gel pen, pencil & ink.

Leucia - the mama Siren, a loving hard working character but with an aggressive streak & an ever increasing enjoyment of wine...

Thina - the power hungry teenage Gorgon daughter.

Charon - the Daddy ferryman of the River Styx.

Xander - the introverted son in training to be a helper of Hades with the dream of racing Pegasus.

Underworld - Background Colour Experiments...

Yet more colour experiments... but the backgrounds this time!

Digital colour - I quite like this look as I think it works due to the block shapes & lack of curves for the most part, but I do think it would look better with the use of textures & possibly no line details...

Hand done colours.

Pro marker is the favourite due to the bolder colours but still maintaining texture.

Top; watercolour & ink.

Bottom; Pro marker, ink & gel pen.

Underworld - More Background Colour Tests...

A few more colour experiments... trying to tie in the styles of the character designs & the backgrounds so there is some correlation between the styles.

Basic mixed medium; watercolour, pencil & gel pen.

Water colour & fine liner, similarly to the style posted previously as I like the use of line, but developing it with watercolour to add texture & colour. Plus similar to a previous coloured character.

Underworld Characters - The Father!!

Initial sketches & ideas for the character of the father, based on Charon - the guy who ferries dead people across the River Styx...

Trying to base the head shape on a skull, giving him an aged & demon like appearance. However I need to steer away from the slightly terrorist look they seem to carry... I think it's the beard...
